There’s no question that the world’s watchmakers have decided that Green is the “new Black” when it comes to watch dials. A couple of years ago Blue was the new Black, and there’s a push by some to make Red the newest of new Blacks, but for 2021 Green is where it’s at. Actually technically, the new 2021 TAG Heuer Monaco replica with green dial LE combines both Green and Black, but irrespective of how you view another Green-dial watch, we think that this is one of the most beautiful dials that TAG Heuer has ever made.
The new emerald Monaco is being released to coincide with this weekend’s Monaco Historic Grand Prix, the second year that perfect fake TAG Heuer has been associated with the increasingly popular biannual event held before the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix. Last year, TAG Heuer produced a Grand Prix de Monaco Historique Edition Monaco Heuer 02, but for 2021, the Monaco goes green.
What’s new you ask? Pretty simple really, because the Green Monaco carries over the case and movement of the still-fresh Heuer 02-powered Monaco, but gains a unique dial which is the centre piece of the watch.
We’re really pleased that we had a chance to see the new TAG Heuer Monaco replica with steel case in the metal, because we can tell you that the dial is even better than it appears in the official photos.
The dial has a dégradé sunburst, deep Green colour, fading to a dark green/ black at the outer edge of the dial. This effect is enhanced by the recessed black sub-dials and gives the watch a very different look to other recent TAG Heuer green dials watches, which were typically much brighter.
So, while the dial may be the only new feature of the watch, it’s certainly special enough to give the Monaco a unique look in the pantheon of Monaco watches over the last ~25 years.
But that doesn’t mean that it’s the first time that we’ve seen a green-dial Monaco- as you can see below, there have been three green dials in recent years: the 50th Anniversary CAW211V, the Japan-only “Green McQueen” and the Swiss Boutique edition with the white racing stripe.
While the movement itself is carried over from the standard production Heuer 02 Monaco, TAG Heuer has gone to the effort of applying green touches to the movement, with the text on the rotor and the column wheel painted in matching green. The cheap TAG Heuer copy watch that we borrowed was a pre-production watch, so it’s not yet clear whether the final caseback will carry a limited edition number or whether, like this watch, it won’t.
You can see on these wrist shots how dark the dial can appear depending on the light- it’s a spectacular dial that you can’t help looking at and moving around to see how it catches the light.
One note with these photos is that we fitted the watch with the strap from the 40th Anniversary Monaco so as to not mark the watch’s correct strap, which is the alligator strap (Ref. FC6497) you see in the earlier photos.
